Curry Rice, one of the unique food of Kuching. Its different from the usual Curry rice where you will be served with a bowl of Curry Chicken + A plate of rice. For this one, it’s served on a single plate and usually comes with long beans, chicken, egg, pork, rice and flooded with tasty curry sauce. “Flooded” is abit exaggerating, well its enough to soak the whole thing and have the whole thing in curry flavour.

I at this at TJ corner, next to Tabuan Plaza at Tabuan Jaya in Tabuan area by the small river. RM5.00. Recommended. Rather generous portion of ingredient.

Tried this Bak Kut Teh at 3 Point which is located next to the Chung Hua primary school at Padungan. This is the different type of Bak Kut Teh which you would expect to eat in Kuching. The usual one would be filled with herbs aroma and bit of wine taste. Don’t be deceived by the size of the bowl, its actually rather shallow, so you see the bones and meat looked like its a bit overflowed.

Experience wise, it was not a bad dish. Meat portion are generous for RM12.00. Fatty and tender meat are balanced. My only complain is that the soup are not hot enough, just rather warm. Added with the freezing air-conditioned room, the food cools up fast, too fast to enjoy a food that was meant to be hot!

One of the caves namely,Fairy Cave, is located in the Bukit Kapor area. It was formed some 100-150 million years ago. There are stalactite and stalagmite formations on the floor of the caves that resemble figures and animals. A number of shrines and altars were erected in the cave where local Taoist Chinese make offerings to the peculiar formations. This is perhaps how the name “Fairy” Cave arised.

Went to this Selera Kak Mah at King center area in Kuching. Ordered this Nasi Pattaya for only RM4.00. For this kind of portion and food mixture, you usually need to pay for about 6-12 ringgit. I would say this is very cheap for what I ordered. Very nicely prepared and taste very good. They have other food like Nasi lemak as well. The stall is the one at the front lot on the right side.

Found a nasi ayam penyet in Kuching where you don’t have to go as far as Petra Jaya to taste it. This one is prepared by a chinese guy instead of a malay or indonesian. Its a Indonesian delicacy by the way. I did a writeup for this previously where you can read it here http://www.kuchingtour.com/06/nasi-ayam-penyet.html . As for the one posted above, you can get it at Lee’s Cafe or “Lao Li” at stutong area. Its just on the side of the Stutong Market.

The verdict, it comes with quite a generous portion shown in the pic and a plate of white rice. Spiciness? Its GOOD!. The price? RM6.00 for all which is not to expensive I guess. The chicken is not as hard and chewy like the one I had last time.

My personal favourite event in Kuching, the mooncake festival celebration. I remember back then when the event was held in a more active and grand manner, I went there every single night just to enjoy the atmosphere. But its has been getting smaller and less organized lately. Most likely due to recent economic downturn, H1N1 or….”political reasons” . There used to be performing live bands, chinese traditional music. Its an annual event with the “inter-cultural” theme, where most ethnics and race will come together and enjoy or perform in this festive, not just limited to Chinese.

This year, its rather plain. Just stalls selling food and stuff. Nevertheless, its still very much lively and crowded as you can see in the photo. I will post more photo update when I am done processing them. Just to post it up for the followers, Saturday will be the last day of this event. 3rd October which is also the actual day for the Mooncake Festival. Lots of mooncake to buy and lots of stuff to see.
